FPSC ANNOUNCES NOVEMBER 2002 CFP EXAMINATION RESULTS

January 14, 2003, Toronto – One thousand four hundred and nineteen (1,419) individuals wrote the Financial Planners Standards Council's (FPSC) Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) Examination on November 9, 2002 and 54 per cent (767) passed. Of those writing the exam for the first time, 63 per cent passed.

The list of the 767 successful CFP candidates will be published in the Globe and Mail on Thursday, January 16.

"Congratulations to all the successful candidates. This examination is a critical component of the CFP certification process and it is rigorous - testing candidates' knowledge, analytical skills and judgment. We applaud those who voluntarily challenge themselves to earn the CFP designation which reflects the highest standard in financial planning," said Cary List, FPSC Vice President, Standards & Certification.

The six-hour CFP Examination is administered in both official languages twice a year. The November Examination was held in 56 centres across Canada. Topics covered reflect the knowledge, skills and professional competence required in the current practice of financial planning as established by CFP professionals and academics from across the country. Only candidates who have completed the educational requirements set by FPSC are eligible to write the CFP Examination. There are now 89 programs with approved curriculum offered at 67 institutions across Canada that support the CFP education requirement, leading to certification.

The next scheduled CFP Examination is on Saturday, June 7, 2003. Registration closes on May 7, 2003. Examination information and applications will be available at www.cfp-ca.org.

Financial Planners Standards Council is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to benefiting Canadians and the financial planning profession by establishing and enforcing education, examination, experience and ethics requirements for individuals who choose to earn the CFP designation. There are currently more than 14,000 planners licensed to use the CFP marks in Canada, and approximately 72, 000 CFP professionals in 17 countries around the world.
