FPSC ANNOUNCES JUNE 2003 CFP EXAMINATION RESULTS
Toronto, July 9, 2003 — One thousand two hundred and thirty five (1,235) individuals wrote the Financial Planners Standards Council's (FPSC) Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) Examination on June 7, 2003 and 57.57 per cent (711) passed. Of those writing the exam for the first time, 61.87 per cent passed.
The list of the 711 successful CFP candidates will be published in the Globe and Mail on Thursday, September 4. For the first time, FPSC will also acknowledge top performing candidates in the Globe and Mail advertisement.
"Congratulations to all the successful candidates. They are now one step closer to earning the only internationally recognized professional financial planning designation. The CFP Examination is one of four key components that lead to the CFP designation, the highest standard in financial planning," said Cary List, FPSC Vice President, Standards & Certification.
The six-hour CFP Examination is administered in both official languages twice a year. The June Examination was held in 52 centres across Canada. Topics examined reflect the knowledge, skills and professional competence required in the current practice of financial planning as established by CFP professionals and academics from across the country.
Only candidates who have completed the educational requirements set by FPSC are eligible to write the CFP Examination. There are 27 programs directly accredited by FPSC that are delivered by 22 institutions (including colleges and universities). However, some program providers have entered into academic partnerships bringing the number of institutions that offer courses of study leading to the CFP designation to over 70.
The next scheduled CFP Examination is on Saturday, November 22, 2003. Registration closes on October 22, 2003. Examination information and applications are available at www.cfp-ca.org.
Financial Planners Standards Council is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to benefiting Canadians and the financial planning profession by establishing and enforcing education, examination, experience and ethics requirements for individuals who choose to earn the CFP designation. There are currently more than 15,000 planners licensed to use the CFP marks in Canada, and approximately 74, 000 CFP professionals in 17 countries around the world.
