Garry Duncan specializes in tax and financial planning. His engagements include personal financial and tax planning, estate planning and family trust, retirement and expatriate planning. His clients range from individual taxpayers to shareholders/owners of Canadian-controlled private corporations.
Mr. Duncan has attained a broad range of professional experience. He worked as an assessor with Revenue Canada for three years before joining Dunwoody & Company as a Tax Specialist and Financial Planner. He was a member of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners and a past President. He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Estate Planning Council of Toronto.
Mr. Duncan is a co-author of Canadians Resident Abroad, 4th Edition, dealing with Canadian expatriates, and Guide to the Family Business, Canadian Edition. He has presented numerous seminars and speeches for the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Canadian Association for Financial Planners, the International Association of Financial Planners and the Strategy Institute. In addition, he has been featured in Canadian Lawyer, Your Money, Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, The Financial Post and C.A. Magazine.
Mr. Duncan has been involved with Financial Planners Standards Council since 1996, initially as a representative of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners and more recently as the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants representative on the Examination Committee. Subsequently, he joined the Board as the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants rep and currently serves as the board chair.
DON JOHNSTON, FCA

Don Johnston's background in education, private business and association management amply equips him for his present position working to establish financial planning as a profession in Canada distinguished by the Certified Financial Planner™ certification.
In 1995, Mr. Johnston negotiated the much sought-after agreement with the owners of the CFP trademarks to sub-license the internationally recognized marks in Canada. He brought a traditionally disparate group of key players in the Canadian financial services industry together in a cooperative effort that forged the Financial Planners Standards Council into existence in November 1995. Under Mr. Johnston's leadership, the CFP certification program in Canada has secured, in seven years, tremendous industry and consumer recognition as the foundation of professionalism in financial planning.
Prior to taking on his responsibilities with FPSC, Mr. Johnston served as Vice President and COO of the Canadian Institute of Financial Planning. From 1985 to 1994, he was a partner and National Director of Education Standards at Ernst and Young, Toronto. He was elected a Fellow in the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants during his tenure as Professional Practice Director of the School of Accountancy at the University of Waterloo from 1980 to 1985. From 1975 to 1980, he served as Dean of Academic Studies in the School of Business at McMaster University.
ANN BOWMAN

Ann Bowman joined Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) as Director of Communications in January 1999. She brings to her current position of Vice President Communications & Corporate Relations more than 10 years experience in the public affairs functions of three of Canada's largest publicly profiled corporations: The Molson Companies Limited, Ford of Canada and Canadian National. Ms. Bowman also has several years experience as a public relations advisor for smaller not-for-profit and volunteer-based organizations and as editor of a national business magazine. She holds an Hon. BA in English Literature from the University of Toronto and a three-year Honours Diploma in Public Relations from Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology, Toronto. She is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators and the Canadian Public Relations Society. Ms. Bowman directs FPSC's efforts in the areas of issues management, stakeholder/public/media relations and internal/external communications and marketing programs.

Cary brings to his role a unique understanding of the industry. Before joining FPSC in June 2002, he developed the Centre for Financial Services Education for George Brown College and established the Centre's Bachelor of Applied Business (Financial Services), the first government-approved college degree program in Ontario. Cary has also held the positions of Director of Financial Planning and Education for Metro Credit Union, Senior Manager of Corporate Education Programs with Retirement Counsel of Canada, and Senior Manager in the national accounting firm BDO Dunwoody. Over the years, Cary has developed and facilitated hundreds of workshops for employees in organizations such as the City of Toronto, numerous provincial and federal government ministries, the Toronto Stock Exchange, Unilever, Noranda and York University. He has also designed and developed specialized financial planning software for use by personal financial planners.
Cary also spent four years in a volunteer capacity for FPSC, sitting on FPSC's Panel of Examiners.
NOEL MAYE

Noel Maye was appointed CEO of Financial Planning Standards Board in January 2003.
Previously, Noel held several senior management positions in his seven-year career at Denver-based CFP Board, a nonprofit professional regulatory organization that benefits the public by fostering professional standards in personal financial planning. Most recently, Noel served as senior vice president overseeing the International, Legal Services, Public and Consumer Affairs and Communications departments. In addition to managing operations and implementing programs on behalf of the International CFP Council, Noel was also a member of the Council's Marketing Communications Group, chair of its Marks and Professional Standards Committee and past-chair of its Public Awareness Committee.
Prior to CFP Board, Noel served as a public relations associate with Ogilvy, Adams & Rhinehart, a New York-based public relations firm, where he specialized in working with financial services clients including Chemical Bank, Financial Guarantee Insurance Company and CFP Board.
Before that, Noel lived in Madrid where he studied Spanish and worked as an English language instructor at Berlitz Language Schools, mainly instructing executives in the telecommunications and petroleum industries.
Born and raised in Ireland, Noel holds an undergraduate degree in engineering from Trinity College Dublin and a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

CIBC has distinguished itself in the market place through an advanced financial planning and wealth management offer. It has aggressively invested in its sales force and today the majority of its "Imperial Service" advisers hold their CFP accreditation.
As Vice President, Financial Solutions Support within CIBC's Wealth Management division, Donna MacCandlish leads a team of financial planning professionals who build sales force capability. The group provides on-demand expert information and advice; delivers core training, continuing education, accreditation and local level product and sales support; and distributes financial advisory, educational communications and seminars in print and through its 'Knowledge Exchange' intranet site.
Donna has broad-based experience across staff and line functions within CIBC and previously at Royal Bank. Throughout her career, she has had the opportunity to work with individual, small business, commercial and large corporate clients. In recent years, she has been instrumental in developing and implementing core strategic initiatives that differentiate CIBC through its financial advisory offer.
Donna's core expertise lies in the areas of training, communications and financial planning. She obtained her CFP designation in 1996, majored in Psychology at Carleton University and also holds a Certificate in E-learning from The University of Toronto.

John Charrette became a Founding Director of the Canadian Institute of Financial Planners (CIFPs) in August 2002. Mr. Charrette was elected Chair of the organization at the first annual general meeting in June 2003. Mr. Charrette brings over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry to his position. He is a Certified Financial Planner professional and currently holds the position of Account Manager with CIBC in Parkhill, Ontario.
WHIPPLE STEINKRAUSS

Whipple Steinkrauss is a retired Assistant Deputy Minister of the Business Practices Division of the former Ontario Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations, (now the Ministry of Consumer and Business Services). In addition to the CCC Board, Ms. Steinkrauss serves as Chair for the Consumer Protection Advisory Committee of the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council, as a Director on the boards of the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council, the Ontario Motor Vehicle Compensation Fund, member of the Board of the Ontario Association of Credit Counselling Services, a member of the Consumers Advisory Committee of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and the Queen's Park Civil Service Quarter Century Club. Ms Steinkrauss is also involved in fundraising for the Toronto Philharmonic Orchestra. She has a BA in economics from Queen's University and an MBA from the University of Toronto.

Advocis
Steve Howard, CA, oversees all aspects of Advocis' activity, including advocacy, on behalf of the Association's 17,000 members and the co-ordination of the interests of Advocis' 50 chapters throughout Canada.
Prior to assuming his responsibilities as president and chief executive officer of Advocis, he was chief executive officer of CAIFA. He formerly held positions as the chief financial officer of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.
Mr. Howard has held various leadership positions in the financial services industry and the chartered accountant profession at the provincial, national, and international level.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Howard was a partner in a London-based chartered accountancy firm, leading the expansion of a local firm into regional centres throughout Ontario.
