WINNIPEG FINANCIAL PLANNER ELECTED CHAIR OF FINANCIAL PLANNERS STANDARDS COUNCIL (FPSC)

Toronto, August 23, 2005 — Margaret Koniuck CGA of Winnipeg, Manitoba, is the new Chair of the Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) Board of Directors. At its Annual Meeting of Members this past June in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the FPSC Board elected Koniuck to a one-year term beginning June 2005 to June 2006.

FPSC is the not-for-profit organization that sets and regulates standards, and oversees the certification of Canadian professionals holding the internationally-recognized Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) credential.

In 2002, Koniuck was appointed to the FPSC Board as CGA-Canada's representative. Her subsequent rise to the role of Board Chair makes her the first woman in FPSC's 10-year history to hold this position.

"It is an honour for me to Chair the FPSC Board, and I envision tremendous growth opportunities for FPSC and the CFP® both nationally and internationally," says Koniuck.

Koniuck is a financial planner who holds the CFP® credential and is a Certified General Accountant (CGA). She has over 25 years experience in the financial services sector that began at the Bank of Nova Scotia. In 1989, Koniuck became the first Bank of Nova Scotia employee in Manitoba to earn a mutual fund sales licence.

In 1995, Koniuck struck out on her own and, in 2000, founded Corporate CARE Inc. (formerly 3rd Millennium Business Benefits), a Winnipeg-based company specializing in financial planning for the small to mid-sized business community. Also, Koniuck is a branch manager with Portfolio Strategies Corporation, a Calgary-based mutual fund dealership.

Koniuck has volunteered in various roles on the Boards of a number of not-for-profit organizations including UNICEF Canada, of which she was Chair from 2000-2002.

Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) is a not-for-profit organization established in 1995 to foster professionalism in personal financial planning.
