FPSC RAMPS UP YOUTH FINANCIAL PLANNING EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
Toronto, October 18, 2005 - Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) enhances its online Educating Youth resource section in time for Investor Education Month. Adding an "Ask an Expert" feature specifically for youth, FPSC invites young people to email their financial planning questions to a rotating panel of Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP™) professionals for a personal response.
Posted in the Educating Youth resource section in the public hub of the FPSC website at www.cfp-ca.org, the Youth Ask an Expert feature complements the roster of educational materials continually being added to the youth-focused resource section. See www.cfp-ca.org/public/ public_educatingyouth.asp.
Focus on Your Finances - new edition now available!
FPSC offers a new updated edition of the popular "Focus On Your Finances, a financial planning tool kit for Canadians aged 15 to 25" (available online and in print by order). Focus On Your Finances is also a popular tool for teaching professionals, CFP professionals and parents who talk to youth about financial planning issues. Since the first edition launched last fall, there have been more than 6,000 copies downloaded off the FPSC website and over 1,000 print copies distributed.
Financial seminars at schools - CFP professionals available: Focus On Your Finances is also part of an FPSC program that brings CFP professionals to schools to deliver educational seminars. More than 160 CFP professionals from across Canada are available to visit schools upon request.
Lynn Cain, CFP, volunteers her time regularly, speaking at high schools about five times per year. She says: "Focus On Your Finances is a great addition to my visits. The students enjoy it because it speaks plainly but doesn't talk down to them. There is enough variety to keep their interest."
Joseph Balsamo, CFP, says he has had great response from clients who have given the kit to their children. "They find the subject of money hard to discuss and conveying the value of a hard-earned dollar even more so. Focus On Your Finances makes it easy to discuss and captivate youth."
