FPSC Unveils the Financial Planning Website

April 15, 2002, Toronto - Financial Planners Standards Council announced the launch today of its expanded website. The site has been redesigned to make it easier for the public, CFP licensees and the media to find everything they need to know about financial planning, Financial Planners Standards Council and the Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) designation.

"It's a site for people who need to know, whether it's the public looking for information on financial planning, CFP licensees needing professional information, or the media in pursuit of a quotable quote," says FPSC Vice President, Communications Ann Bowman.

New sections for the general public include Test Your Financial IQ, a quiz that assesses basic financial planning knowledge and points the way to additional information; Financial Planning Tips, which offers ideas on how to better manage personal finances; and CFP Licensees In Good Standing, where members of the public can verify the CFP licence status of a planner.

Additional sections for CFP Licensees include an Online Licence Renewal, which expedites the licence renewal process, and a CFP Bulletin Board, where CFP professionals can share ideas and opinions.

And for the media, there is now a Story Ideas page that suggests timely topics, issues and news items of interest; Find An Expert, a greatly improved feature that allows the media to search for quotable CFP professionals by area of expertise, gender, location and/or experience; and FPSC Comments, where the Council's views on a variety of issues and events that affect the financial planning community are provided.

"Already a major resource, the new design and expansion have made the FPSC website, a must-visit for anyone looking for timely and relevant information about financial planning and the industry," Bowman says. "When it comes to planning or choosing the right planner, you can't have too much information."

Financial Planners Standards Council is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting Canadian consumers by establishing and enforcing education and ethics standards for financial planners who earn the Certified Financial Planner designation. FPSC is the Canadian licensor of the internationally recognized CFP certification marks currently used by more than 14,000 planners in Canada, and almost 68,000 planners in 17 countries around the world.
