The Certified Financial Planner® Professional Competency Profile describes in detail the abilities that a CFP professional must possess, and represents the job-related skills, knowledge, attitudes and judgments required for competent performance by members of the financial planning profession. It will help everyone better understand both the profession's purpose and value. It distinguishes financial planning from other financial services, and it distinguishes the role and value proposition of the CFP professional from those of other advisors.
The complete Competency Profile document will fully explain the competencies, expectation and applications for FPSC of the Competency Profile. CFP Examination candidates and CFP professionals alike should download the document as a reference tool.
The Competency Profile Matrix should be downloaded as an adjunct to the Competency Profile document. It presents a graphical overview of the Competency Profile. CFP Examination candidates and CFP professionals alike should find it a useful reference to navigate the Competency Profile.

The CFP Examination Blueprint
The CFP® Examination Blueprint, effective November 2007, is the direct outcome of the validation of the CFP® Professional Competency Profile, and one of the most important results of Financial Planners Standards Council’s competency-based analysis of the financial planning profession in Canada. The Examination Blueprint sets out the weightings assigned to the examination criteria (the Competency Profile) for testing on the November 2007 and subsequent CFP Examinations. The Blueprint will guide the Panel of Examiners, responsible for setting the CFP Examination, in the development of the certification examination and should guide examination candidates in their preparation for the same.
