My name is Cary List and I am the President and Chief Executive
Officer of Financial Planners Standards Council.
You're here because someone you know has
earned CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®)
certification. I'm here to tell you about the scope and
significance of the commitment to financial planning
professionalism this accomplishment represents. CFP certification
is the responsibility of FPSC. It is the foundation on
which, together with every one of our 17,000 CFP professionals,
we are building the financial planning profession for
the benefit and protection of Canadians today and tomorrow.
 The
road to financial planning professionalism as represented
by CFP certification never ends. It's a journey that
begins with years of study in an FPSC accredited
educational program, the successful completion of which is required to write the mandatory national CFP Examination. It's
a journey that includes the gathering of relevant work
experience prior to CFP certification, and a career-long
commitment to Continuing Education, the CFP
Code of Ethics and Practice
Standards. It's a journey all CFP professionals
take to serve you — their clients, their employers and
their fellow colleagues — best. It's a demanding journey,
requiring tremendous dedication and integrity.

members of this community, for their achievement and
