About
the Donald J. Johnston Award
Purpose
To recognize and honour in perpetuity the spirit, imagination,
dedication and contribution to the professional of financial
planning in Canada – as exemplified by Financial Planners
Standards Council (FPSC) founding president, Donald J. Johnston.
To create a platform for annual public recognition and appreciation
of the significant contributions made by individuals (or
groups) to the profession of financial planning in Canada – thereby
raising general awareness of the progress being made to benefit
consumers of financial planning services and inspiring further
contribution to the advancement of the financial planning
profession.
Ongoing Criteria for Award
The award will honour people who have made a significant
contribution to the financial planning profession in Canada
through a unique achievement or outstanding service that
advances the financial planning profession in Canada. Nominees
will be considered for their work and accomplishments in
servicing or advancing the financial planning profession’s
ability to benefit and protect Canadians seeking qualified
financial planning; and/or their work and accomplishments
in garnering greater respect and recognition for financial
planning as a profession by regulators, legislators, industry,
other professions and/or the marketplace. However, it is
recognized that these benefits are not mutually exclusive,
and it is expected that they will be broadly and diversely
interpreted by the Award Committee.
Calls for nominations will be made annually and applications
made available on-line at www.cfp-ca.org
Eligible nominations may stand for a maximum of three years.
All nominations will be considered by an Award
Committee,
which will be comprised of individuals from FPSC, board members
as well as other appointees.

The recipient of the 2007 Award will be honoured at the
FPSC Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors generally held
in June.
