Don Johnston Award-
About the Donald J. Johnston Award

Nominations are now open.
Submission deadline is November 30, 2006.

Purpose

To recognize and honour in perpetuity the spirit, imagination, dedication and contribution to the profession of financial planning in Canada – as exemplified by Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) founding president, Donald J. Johnston.

To create a platform for annual public recognition and appreciation of the significant contributions made by individuals (or groups) to the profession of financial planning in Canada – thereby raising general awareness of the progress being made to benefit consumers of financial planning services and inspiring further contribution to the advancement of the financial planning profession.

Ongoing Criteria for Award

The award honours those who have made significant contributions to the financial planning profession in Canada through unique achievements or outstanding service. Nominees are considered for their work and accomplishments in servicing or advancing the financial planning profession’s ability to benefit and protect Canadians seeking qualified financial planning; and/or their work and accomplishments toward garnering greater respect and recognition for financial planning as a profession by regulators, legislators, industry, other professions and/or the marketplace. However, it is recognized that these benefits are not mutually exclusive, and it is expected that they will be broadly and diversely interpreted by the Award Committee.

Calls for nominations are made annually.

Eligible nominations may stand for a maximum of three years.

All nominations are considered by an Award Committee comprised of individuals from FPSC, board members as well as other appointees.

Acknowledgements

The annual recipient of the Donald J. Johnston Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession of Financial Planning in Canada will be honoured at the Annual FPSC Board of Directors Reception in June 2007.
